Bajrang Dal, Vhp Indulge in Terrorist Acts: Brinda Karat
New Delhi: Following the demands by Lok Janshakti Party chief, Ram Vilas Paswan and Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav for imposing ban on Hindu organizations, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), CPI(M) polit bureau member Brinda Karat today termed them as terrorist like organizations. In a letter addressed to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil Karat demanded that the severest action be taken against Bajrang Dal and VHP.
Labelling these fundamentalist Hindu outfits as a threat to national security, Karat said, "I strongly urge the government to put the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad on the watch list of organizations indulging in terrorist like activities. Recent events in Orissa have highlighted the use of violence by these two organizations against the Christian community including the use of weapons, inflammatory material to burn homes, prayer houses and churches etc."
In her letter to the Home Minister, the senior CPI(M) leader also targets the BJP for its links with these two organizations. To prove her point she said that the son of a BJP leader and his accomplice, associated with one of these organisations were arrested when a bomb they were making went off. She further said that two Bajrang Dal activists were killed while making bombs in Kanpur. Their leaders are making the most rabidly communal speeches, which seriously undermine national security, Karat added emphasising her viewpoint.
Brinda Karat has been demanding strong action against against Bajrang Dal, VHP and RSS for long accusing them of making deliberate attempt to spread communal hatred in the country. Even earlier during the Budget Session on April, 30 she had raised, in the Rajya Sabha, the issue of the Tenkasi bomb blast, in which, Tamilnadu police had pointed fingers towards RSS men. She had even demanded a CBI inquiry into incidents of bomb blasts in Nanded and the parcel bombs sent to Muslim religious leaders in Maharashtra, alleging these to be handiworks of fundamental Hindu outfits. However, then the Home Ministry had rejected her demands saying that investigations did not find any connection between these different incidents and involvement of any such organizations.
But, Karat maintained that these incidents should not be seen in isolation because the investigation carried out by the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) in Maharashtra put these stray incidents as to have been carefully planned. She said that the Bajrang Dal, VHP and RSS aimed to create communal disturbances directly and indirectly. The Home Ministry is, however, yet to give any response to the letter written to Shivraj Patil. But, a sources say that a ban or putting these organizations under watch list for terrorist like activities is highly unlikely because only recently Patil himself had refuted and rejected such demands from other corners.
