Shorin Ryu or Okinawan Kobudo are you out there?
I am fairly new to shorin ryu karatedo (I am a yellow belt) and will soon be starting Okinawan Kobudo. I was wondering two things. Are there any people out there studying shorin ryu (as it is hardly mentioned). Does anyone know what I can sort of expect in Okinawan Kobudo (I will be starting with nunchaku and a bo)? Also is there a type of stance used very often in Kobudo? Thank you for reading and hopefully answering

Shorinryu consists of four basic braches, Shorin Ryu Mastubayashi Ryu, Shorin Ryu Kobayashi Ryu, Shorin Ryu Shobayashi Ryu, and Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito. There are other traditional systems and many more modern systems that have Shorin Ryu in their lineage somewhere.The Kanji for Shorin means Young Forest or Pine Forest. Shorin translated into Chinese is Shaolin. The roots of most of the Okinawan Arts are in China. There are lots and lots and lots of people training in Shorinryu Karate and Kobudo all over the world.

As for the stances used in kobudo. They should not significantly change from the basic karate stances you already know or will learn. Fumio Demura said that the weapon is mearly an extension of the hand.
