How should I transport my boken?
Anyway, this summer i'm going to be traveling from Pennsylvania to Italy, and will be staying there for six weeks. I don't want to fall behind on my practice so i was wondering if any one could give me their idea on the best way to bring it over, should i mail it ahead somehow or is there a way to send it through with luggage? Im not too sure about plane regulations. Anyway, any information would be great! Thank you!
btw, boken is basically just a wooden katana
get yourself a hard fishing pole carrying case of the appropriate length that should do the trick just fine. It shouldn't be a problem in the checked baggage being that it is made from wood.
If you cant find a carrying case of the right size go to your local plumbing supply/home depot whatever and get some plastic pipe the right diameter to hold the boken and end caps and either ABS or PVC glue. Put it all together and you have a home made boken carrying case for about $10 - 15. I'd go with the lighter colour it will stand out better.
You may have to put it through the oversize luggage so check with your airline about the size/
