What size for a poster from a photo? 10 points BA.?
I have a picture id like to make into a poster, and was wondering whats the largest i can get it printed at, without loosing the detail. Would A1 be okay?
It is 2800x3700
Also if you know a good online printing service (UK only), that would be very useful too.
Cheers!
Btw it is 96dpi, vertical and horizontal. If that matters.
A1 is 594 × 841mm, so you would get about 4.5 pixels per mm. There being 25.4mm in one inch, that gives about 110 pixels per inch.
At that print resolution you wouldn't want to get up close, but that's probably not what you have in mind, so I'd say go for it. If you went to A0 which is about 1.4 times the linear size, you'd get 110/1.4 or about 80 pixels per inch (3 per mm) - still sounds OK to me.
I've not used any online printers, but I guess that Boots, Jessops, WH Smiths, etc, will all have acceptable offerings. I used to use Bonusprint in my film days, and they're still around. I also would consider my local reprographics shop, although they won't be the cheapest you could pop in once they've confirmed they'd do it - you wouldn't be sweating on the post. Search on yell.com for your area.
