Iga, Mie Prefecture, Worth Seeing?
So I'm going to Japan and wondering if Iga is worth going to see for the Ninja Museum and the school.
If so, how do i get there from whatever major city is closest
i.e
Kyoto
Osaka
Hiroshima
Tokyo
Thanks and bless
Ichiban.
To be honest, the ninja museum and demonstrations done in Iga are targeted at young audiences (aka: children) . The demonstrations are still enjoyable to watch, the museum has some interesting ninja weapons and tools, and the ninja house trapdoors and hiding spot demonstrations are okay, but you may feel it's all a bit hokey... (children often buy colored ninja outfits and wear them as they tour)
There are a couple of other options if you have second thoughts about Iga. Koka city is the other famous ninja city (also located in the Kansai area), and it also has a museum. I've never been there, but it seems to be more mature and authentic. Here is the website:

The Nijo Jinya is a house in Kyoto is famous for its many trapdoors and secret spots. If you want to go here, you have to make reservations, though, and I believe you need to call (Japanese only).
It's listed on:
http://www.japan-guide.com
Actually, Iga Ueno is also on that site. Koka is not listed.
You can find different routes on this website:

When looking up Iga, type IgaUeno. That is the former name of the city and (more importantly) that's the name of the station. If you just type "Iga", you get a Kyushu listing.
(Kyoto and Osaka are the closest cities on your list. Nara is even closer)
