Layman Dojo - Japanese Edition (katana) II
So far we have covered the basics of a Japanese sword, get to know the parts and the type of metal to be found in reference to your use of the weapon. Now we will deepen and take a look at the stage follows. Where do you find a weapon best suited for you and your needs. I'll divide this into two parts, one for collectors and for warriors or those who plan to train with their weapons.
Collectors:
Allright guys, here we go. There is a fairly large variety of places to the reach of some of the highest caliber, weapons stunning. Starting with the first and most obvious: the Internet.
We use at the moment. Pretty easy, rapid and unprecedented in its range and versatility, the Internet is a gold mine when looking for good weapons. You can find weapons at several sites. I usually do not recommend Ebay. There is always a chance that you will end up with something less than what you want, and everything in it is a major concern. However, if the user is reliable (check status and feedback from other buyers have posted plenty about them), then you can have a green light. But mostly I prefer sites that contain weapons only. Just draw a google search for swords and you will most likely happen with some sites. Using the previous article, you know that stainless steel is to you, so keep an eye on the equipment used in the forge (GB 440-C, if possible).
The good thing about the collection: your price range is very flexible. If you have a lot of money to put into your collection, you can really go for gold and rock a few beautiful pieces. But on the flip side, if you are a beginning collector, or work on a budget you can still find some really beautiful pieces. Just dig deeper. Always keep an eye on the swords that the decision maker is willing to give his story. When it was forged, where, how, the whole nine yards. These will usually be a treasure from your collection rather than a piece you end up throwing in lots of different.
Also, keep your eyes off of the Renaissance fairs and functions. This is an amazing place that offers hands on the purchase and direct discussion with the artist who made the weapons.
Combatants and Martial artists:
Now for you guys, I have this to say: Be prepared to spend money. You can use the same guidelines on where to buy as shown above in the section collector, but you should keep in mind that stainless steel is not for you. The metal is too brittle for the day to day wear and tear. You will need the range of carbon steel or Damascus, which are of a metal more precious. If you are on a budget I would recommend looking bokken, or wooden Katana. They are durable, offer a relatively Print good in comparison with a real sword and are inexpensive. Return to the search of a real sword ready for battle when you can afford, and for now practice with a bokken until that time comes. It is an acceptable substitute pretty (not to mention safer!). Now, when you buy a sword-oriented training or combat, keep an eye on silk of swords. It MUST be full tang. Nothing less will fall on you! With steel and tang in mind, you should be armed with the knowledge to get a decent weapon. Price ranges vary from two hundred thousands of dollars. Nothing wrong with a cheaper one. Get what you can afford, be proud of and care for it diligently. This weapon is a extension of yourself, so find something that you can link with a martial artist.
