Get in the Game - Create 100,000 new black businesses across America in 2010
Small business is responsible for 85 percent of all new jobs in America. With the collaboration efforts of Black Haves and Black poor, small businesses can stand for jobs in our communities benefit the interests of both groups.
Several years ago a good friend told me about an incident in which he asked white to a rich person, "Who will take care to care for poor whites?" The man replied: "The rich white men will take care of poor whites. " My friend then asked, "Who will care for poor blacks?" The man said, "God will take care of poor blacks. "The rich white man did not even consider that wealthy Black people would take care of the poor blacks. Why?
Donations to black colleges, as noted in many recent reports, are almost nonexistent among blacks and former Black. For decades, corporate donations and foundation schools have kept historically black nation out of our life. In addition, huge pools of wealthy Blacks have graduated from traditionally white colleges. Without any connection to colleges historically black, they are reluctant to donate. [I like to think they could have at least some tiny incentive]
I will rephrase the statement rich man's white differently. White "haves" to take care of the white "Have Nots." Black "Haves" take care of Black "poor ". Black Haves take care of the black poor, is not it?
Before the passage of the 1964 law on civil rights, most blacks, regardless their origins and other factors such as education, hair texture or color, were required to sit in the back of the bus, denied seating in many white restaurants, and forbidden to drink from any fountain marked "white only."
Small groups of affluent blacks were forced to live in the same neighborhoods with the largest group of poor ("Annotations" was the term commonly used to refer to mortgage discrimination) before the Community Reinvestment Act and legislation on housing opportunities. One of the most degrading practice social black men, regardless of size, age or financial means, have been subjected to being commonly called "boy" by many within the white population.
Employment opportunities in companies like General Mills, 3M, Cargill, Sears, investment firms Wall Street, or any other company did not exist before major disruptions for civil rights in the 1960s. Arthur Fletcher, a Republican Black, who worked in the administration of Richard Nixon, had not yet invented "retirement programs or affirmative action." (Google Arthur Fletcher for more info.)
Businesses and local governments and federal government had not yet introduced Black advocacy jobs such as TEE directors, managers, diversity, or recruiters and agents of the minority of purchase. Whitney Young, the great leader of the Urban League, had not yet negotiated the offers to open the doors of employment businesses for Black Americans, or other races.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. said in his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington, August 28, 1963: "America has issued a check marked insufficient Black funds. "Many of us have not really understood this key point.
"In a sense we have come to the capital of our nation to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they signed a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as men white, would be guaranteed the "unalienable rights" of "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness." It is obvious today that America missed on this ticket, since her citizens of color are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, America has given the people black a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds."
Today in American cities, we celebrate the anniversary of Martin Luther King by paying white caterers to provide meals in the best banquet facilities belonging to white and hotels, wearing our most finery and pay $ 40 per plate. Few of these dollars go to Black business owners. Dr. King told White America to ante up economic opportunities for blacks. This was his mission when he was shot in Memphis. He fought for economic opportunities for workers in garbage.
In the meantime, remember Malcolm X, the lobbyist of the street. Malcolm X raised hell in the streets, excited the poor of his time to rise to be heard, seen and recognized, by all means necessary. Malcolm X, one based lobbyist, said in his speech, "The vote and the ball," as Blacks, being Republican or Democrat is irrelevant, we have been oppressed by both parties.
Fast forward 40 years, 2008. The 60 lights are disturbances. Black communities are still controlled by the same people who controlled these 40 years ago. The rich black "leadership role never took root, the Black poor are abandoned. The rich black more often awake to a life in neighborhoods with predominantly white, driving to their jobs in business and luxury vehicles around the water coolers with white co-workers as if there were poor blacks no.
The affluent blacks are not without parents - mothers, fathers, cousins, aunts, etc., in the old quarter. These people are among the 8 out of 10 blacks are unemployed or underemployed, and living pay check. While poor blacks are trapped in the blazing fire of poverty with no door marked "Exit", the rich spend their salaries to black business and maximize their credit cards in their newly found communities with, for many, a desire and / or attempt to mix.
Many self-employed blacks and professionals providing services such as real estate agents, even very few dollars off the black "- the Black Haves white professionals buying into the illusion that they have" arrived ". Arrived? To feel that you have arrived by spending your dollars exclusively within white businesses? Black Haves often see the professional smile as white as a trusted friend, but do not extend not the same trust in professional black.
A reporter asked a white voter in a southern state to explain why he would vote not for Barack Obama. A voter said, "We take care of us." Will black voters to take care of their own?
Photos Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, that adorn the walls of most houses of the rich Black are the only vestiges of a connection to the community in which the rich blacks once lived.

Black rush to the wealthy sponsor companies outside the communities in which they are even born, raised, and their parents still live. Those who remain are struggling to find a convenience store.
Owner, AG Gaston in Birmingham, Alabama, has been reported for saying that it is far better to say: "I was rich," as saying: "I am poor." AG Gaston was rich. AG Gaston was a Black millionaire. His wealth was created during the era of Jim Crow by providing goods and services to Black Haves and have-nots who were forced to live in neighborhoods in black only. At his death he was worth millions. He created hundreds of jobs and provided training and employment to thousands of unskilled poor blacks. Today, the AG Gaston Expo is held annually in Birmingham to promote economic growth of the black community with a focus on wealth creation and capacity building creating businesses that provide jobs in the black community.
Many Black Haves of today are more self-centered. Affluent Black are, for the most wary of risk. They play it safe. Malcolm and Martin have taken risks.
We need to find the talent pool, who will take risks to create businesses in Black communities. Where does this talent pool reside? This talent is found mainly in corporate America? Do black people coming to work in 8:00, accountants, marketing professionals, lawyers, computer scientists and others, have the skill set needed to start businesses?
The "inclusiveness" goals of Corporate America are met by hiring Black Haves. But they rarely hire or create opportunities for poor blacks.
Black leaders of the past would be greatly disappointed to see the full stratification that exists today. Off Black, in many cases seem to think, "I got to where I am, here inside the door of Corporate America on my own accord. "In many cases these people to slam the door shut on creating opportunities for poor blacks to have access in the future.
The trenches during the Civil Rights era were filled with both the Black poor and the rich Black. Laws against denying opportunities purely based on the color of the skin had not yet been adopted. More trenches were filled with the "Ready to Die" brothers and sisters standing arms locked when legendary Bull Connor (Google if you do not have a clue who Bull Connor is) unleashed the dogs, opened the water pipes and reject the black have the right to sit in the lunch counter (while reciting "in the name of God and Good Christians" in Birmingham, Alabama). Small business is responsible 85 percent of all new jobs in America. With the collaboration of Black Haves and Black poor, small businesses can stand for jobs in our communities that will benefit the interests of both groups.
